The cause of Pope Francis's death could have been a stroke.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Corriere della Sera, such rumors are circulating in the Vatican. However, this version has not yet been officially confirmed. The Holy See's statement is expected to be issued in a few hours.
It has become known that the pontiff's condition significantly deteriorated last night, although the day before he was able to deliver a speech to the faithful. Earlier, he had suffered from pneumonia, which greatly affected Francis's health condition
According to established traditions, the Pope's death must be confirmed by a doctor, and the camerlengo - the cardinal responsible for managing Vatican finances - must declare his position vacant (sede vacante). Nine days are allocated for the funeral, although it usually happens earlier. Pope Francis himself had previously allowed his funeral to be conducted according to a simplified scheme, without a number of rituals and ceremonies. Then, approximately three weeks later, a conclave will gather to elect a new Pope.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the camerlengo of the Roman Catholic Church, will lead the ceremony confirming the death of Pope Francis on April 21 in the evening, at 10:00 PM Baku time, according to the Holy See's press service.
