Elon Musk has implanted a chip in the world's first person with ALS

Neuralink company has installed a brain implant in a patient with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for the first time.

This was announced by the company's head Elon Musk in his X account.

The third person in the world with a Neuralink chip turned out to be Arizona (USA) resident Bradford Smith. Smith is almost completely paralyzed, but with the help of the implant he can type text on his computer, which is synthesized into speech.

"I am the first chipped person in the world with ALS. And the first non-speaking one," the man wrote in his X account. Musk, in turn, encouraged users through social media to ask Smith questions.

According to Bradford Smith's X posts, his life is difficult, but he is happy that "everything is good now." With the help of the implant that allows him to type text, Smith shared that his body is almost completely paralyzed, except for the corners of his mouth and eyes. The man also depends on a ventilator that maintains his vital functions.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is an incurable degenerative disease of the central nervous system associated with the damage of motor neurons. ALS is considered a rare disease.
