Trump made an unexpected statement about Zelensky's plans for Crimea

President of the United States Donald Trump believes that Vladimir Zelensky is ready to abandon the demand to return Crimea to Ukraine.

As TASS reports, he stated this while speaking with journalists from the White House press pool at Morristown Airport, located in the state of New Jersey.

"I believe that's the case, yes," the American leader said, answering the corresponding question.

"Nobody raised this topic for twelve years, and now suddenly they're talking about it. So I told him [Vladimir Zelensky], I tell them: 'Maybe you should contact [forty-fourth President of the United States Barack Obama]? Ask him why he gave it up [the peninsula]?' By the way, they gave it up without a single shot," Donald Trump added.

He noted that Vladimir Zelensky was calmer during their conversation in Rome than before, and is ready to make a deal.

"I saw that he was calmer. I think he understands what's happening and wants to make a deal," the American leader said, without clarifying whether he was referring to a deal between Washington and Kyiv on minerals or an agreement on settling the conflict in Ukraine.
